Welcome Aboard!
Come travel back in time as Fort Zachary Taylor adopts the setting of an English stronghold defending her shores against an invasion from pyrates. The Fort Taylor Pyrate Invasion will take you back to the days of the Golden Age of Pyracy during 1675-1825. Visitors will have the opportunity to experience pyrate encampments, living history demonstrations, live battles and shop at the “local” merchants. Enjoy a weekend of sea chanteys, hear the roar of the great guns and mingle with the captains and crews.
Fort Taylor was constructed in 1845 and served as a Union fortress during the American Civil War. But now, we are taking the "literary license" to transform the fortress into an English stronghold in South Florida. While a fortress did not exist here during the Golden Age of Piracy, our goal is to provide our visitors with a flavor of what it might have been like had there been a fortress here and had pirates been shipwrecked on Cayo Hueso. Fort Taylor is located at the end of Southard St. reached by going through the Truman Annex.
